Microsoft Bob-tan

Description

Inspired by Kattlanna's character design, here's my interpretation of her Microsoft Bob-tan as she looks today.

Here's Kattlanna's original sketch and character bio for Bob-tan: [link]

All I did, really, was add the smiley-face badge as a callback to the original Microsoft Bob packaging, and give Bob-tan a simple barrette, all the better to keep her hair out of her face while working and still look somewhat stylish.

My hand isn't as steady as I'd like it -- in fact, it cramped severely while drawing this -- and I'm far from being a trained artist, but I've been having some good results lately using a combination of MyPaint (think of it as on open source Corel Painter workalike) and a Wacom Bamboo tablet. This represented my first serious effort to do character artwork in this fashion, and I had wanted it to have a sort of "hand-made" feel. Instead, it came out like a six-year-old drew it. Sigh...

EDIT: I've replaced this with an improved version with better (and by "better" I mean "actual") shading and coloring techniques. Can you believe I used MyPaint to create two actual artwork pieces and didn't even discover it had a Layers function? Yeah. Oh well, enjoy my improved version...

Still, they say practice makes perfect. Let me know what you think, and I'll see if I can't do more and improve myself.

Squee, an MS Bob fanart! :excited: I really like it, even with the slightly rough lineart.

You might want to consider doing lineart in Inkscape using the calligraphy tool-- in my experience, the Wacom Bamboo works perfectly under Inkscape and since it's vector, it tends to cut down on jitteriness (a problem I've had with lineart too). Of course, it's difficult to adjust the lineart in Inkscape, but you can always export to GIMP and erase out any bad lines and whatnot.

Never used MyPaint, but I might give it a try... if a Mac OSX port exists, that is to say.
